Smoke shop employee training for THCa questions

Updated October 16, 2026

Smoke shop employee training for THCa products works when staff learn five things: the formats, the labels, the lab reports, facts-only answers and the age check. Each part fits into one short shift. A printed cheat sheet keeps it at the counter.

The plan below uses the formats Zigg Distro lists for wholesale: flower, coated flower, live rosin, gummies, disposable vapes and drinks. It covers budtender training basics and how to answer customer questions without guesswork. It also shows where to send the questions staff cannot answer.

Step 1: Learn the formats on the shelf

Staff should name each format on sight. They should also know what the package calls it. Zigg Distro lists six main formats for retailers.

  • Uncoated flower: Freezo strains such as Zoap - Uncoated Flower and Apple Fritter, plus 1 LB bulk strains.
  • Coated flower: Freezo diamond coated flower such as Breath Mintz and White Out, listed in Coated Flower.
  • Live rosin: Freezo 2G live rosin such as Iced Apple and Frozen Runtz.
  • Gummies: Freezo live resin and live rosin gummies such as Grape Glacier and Snowmelon.
  • Disposable vapes: Breeze flavors such as Breeze - Grape.
  • Drinks: hemp-derived THC beverages.

In general, coated flower is flower with a concentrate layer on the outside. Live rosin is a solventless concentrate pressed from fresh frozen plant material. Staff can describe these processes in plain terms. For brand detail, the live rosin brands guide covers Freezo and Kronton.

Step 2: Read the label and the listing

The package is the first source of facts. Train staff to read every panel before they answer a question. The product listing on ziggdistro.com is the second source.

  1. Find the brand name: Freezo, KronTON, ATreez or Breeze.
  2. Find the product name and strain name.
  3. Find the format and the size printed on the package.
  4. Find the lot or batch code.
  5. Compare the package to the product listing the store ordered from.

Some 1 LB listings name a type, such as indica, sativa or hybrid. Staff can repeat that word as the listed type. The strain guide shows each listed type for the bulk strains.

Step 3: Find and match the lab report

Zigg Distro places a lab report link inside the product description on the product pages that carry one. Staff should know how to open that link on a store tablet or phone.

  • Check the product name on the report against the package.
  • Check the product format on the report against the package.
  • Check the lot or sample reference against the package.
  • Remember that a matching product name alone is not a match.
  • Remember that a lab sample reference is not always the same number as the batch code.

A product with no report published on the site is not a product without a report. A published report does not prove by itself that it covers the lot in hand. When the two do not line up, staff should flag it to the manager, who can ask Zigg Distro.

Step 4: Answer with facts only

Counter staff answer only with what the package and the listing say. They do not describe how a product acts on a person. They do not suggest amounts or timing. They do not rank products against each other.

  • Good answer: "This is Breath Mintz THCA Live Rosin from Freezo. The package lists the size here."
  • Good answer: "This strain is listed as a hybrid on the product page."
  • Good answer: "The lab report link is in the product description online. I can show it to you."
  • Not allowed: personal stories, guesses about how a product acts or advice on how much to use.

When a customer pushes for advice, staff repeat the label facts and offer the package to read. This keeps every answer consistent across shifts.

Step 5: Check age and route hard questions

Make the age check store policy for every sale, every time. Staff check ID before the product leaves the counter, even for regular customers. Write the rule on the cheat sheet and in the shift handbook.

Some questions go above the counter. Staff pass them to a manager instead of guessing. Managers can use the Zigg Distro questions and answers page or the contact page for product questions.

  • Questions about a lab report that does not match the package.
  • Questions about shipping or returns, covered on the Shipping & Returns page.
  • Any question about how a product acts or how much to use.

One-page cheat sheet for the counter

Print this list and tape it near the register. Review it at the start of each shift for the first two weeks.

  1. Check ID before every sale. No exceptions.
  2. Name the format: flower, coated flower, live rosin, gummy, disposable or drink.
  3. Read the brand, product name, size and lot code from the package.
  4. Quote only the package and the product listing.
  5. Never describe how a product acts. Never suggest amounts.
  6. Lab report: open the link in the product description online.
  7. Match name, format and lot or sample reference. Name alone is not a match.
  8. Mismatch or hard question: call the manager.
  9. Ordering questions: the product page shows what can be ordered.

Update the sheet when new products arrive. The Shop All page lists the current range.
