How to read a COA before you stock a hemp product

Updated October 16, 2026

To read a COA, match three things on the report to the package in hand. Those three things are the product name, the product format and the lot or sample reference. If all three line up, the report fits the product on the counter. If they do not, ask the supplier before the case goes on a shelf.

Zigg Distro is a wholesale distributor of THCa flower, vapes, concentrates, gummies and hemp-derived THC beverages. It sells to retailers, smoke shops and distributors. The steps below cover where Zigg Distro places lab report links and how a buyer checks them.

What a COA is

A COA is a lab report. A laboratory issues it after a company sends in a sample. The report names the sample and lists the lab's findings in a set layout.

For a store buyer, the key question is whether the report describes the product in the case being stocked. Reading a COA for retail starts with identity, not with the findings section.

Where Zigg Distro links lab reports

Zigg Distro places a lab report link inside the product description on the product pages that carry one. Open the product page, scroll to the description and look for the link.

A product page such as Breath Mintz THCA Diamond Coated Flower is a typical place to start. Category pages like Coated Flower lead to individual product pages. The product page also shows what can be ordered.

A product with no report published on the site is not a product without a report. Buyers can ask Zigg Distro for the report directly.

Match name, format and reference

Check three points on any report against the packaging in hand.

  1. Product name: the name on the report should match the name on the package.
  2. Product format: flower, live rosin, gummies or vape should match the product in the case.
  3. Lot or sample reference: compare the reference on the report with the codes on the package.

A matching product name on its own is not a match. Two formats can share a strain name. For example, Breath Mintz appears as coated flower and as Breath Mintz THCA Live Rosin. A flower report does not describe the rosin.

Lot codes and sample references

A laboratory sample reference is not always the same number as the batch code printed on a package. Labs often assign their own reference when a sample arrives. The producer prints its own batch code during packing.

So a mismatch in numbers is a reason to ask, not proof of a problem. A published report is also not by itself proof that it covers the lot in hand. The supplier can confirm which report goes with which batch.

Ask before you stock

When the name, format or reference does not line up, contact the supplier before stocking the product. Zigg Distro asks buyers to reach out when the two do not line up.

  • Note the product name and format from the package.
  • Copy the batch code exactly as printed.
  • Send both through the Zigg Distro contact page.
  • Hold the case off the shelf until the answer comes back.

A short log of each check gives staff a record. It helps when staff or customers ask about a product later.

Build the check into receiving

A simple habit is to check reports at receiving, when cases come off the truck. Staff can open the product page on a phone and compare it to the package.

Stores with many SKUs can keep one shared folder of saved reports. Freezo gummies such as Grape Glacier - Live Resin Gummies come in many flavors. A folder keeps those reports in order.

Buyers new to the catalog can read wholesale THCa flower in case packs. The hemp wholesale overview covers the wider range.
